Vonage Business Communications review: an app-only Mobile plan at $19.99 a line
Updated Oct 15, 2026 · scored under rubric v1
Vonage suits a team that works from the mobile and desktop apps and wants month-to-month billing with no termination fee. Look elsewhere if you need desk phones, video meetings, call recording or team chat on the entry plan.
Vonage Business Communications starts with the Mobile plan at $19.99 per line per month, month to month, plus taxes and fees. Mobile covers unlimited domestic calling, SMS and MMS, and desktop and mobile apps. Desk phones and video meetings start on Premium at $29.99, call recording on Advanced at $39.99. Annual contracts carry early termination fees of up to the full contract price; monthly plans have none but no refunds.
What it does well
- Mobile is $19.99 per line a month with no annual contract

- Vonage says its SMS and MMS are not HIPAA compliant
Vonage Business Communications (VBC) is Vonage's cloud phone service, sold per line in three plans. We read its pricing page, terms of service, platform page and support articles.
What Vonage Business Communications costs
| Plan | Month to month | The limit that matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile | $19.99 per line a month | Apps only: no desk phones, video meetings or call recording |
| Premium | $29.99 per line a month | Adds desk phones, video meetings (up to 200) and team messaging |
| Advanced | $39.99 per line a month | Adds call recording (15 hours a month) and call groups |
Prices from its pricing page, read Sep 24, 2026, plus taxes and fees. Five lines on Mobile come to $99.95 a month.
The page also shows a 30%-off 12-month promotion (Mobile at $13.99), but it says the offer ran through January 31, 2026, already past when we read it. We don't use it.
Over time
Total = monthly price × 12 × years, or yearly price × years, or a one-time price once; a per-seat plan is multiplied by seats. Only current plan prices; fees are listed separately. Taxes, add-ons and promotional prices are not included.
Current prices
| Plan | Price | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile (month-to-month) Standard month-to-month rate, no annual contract, per line per month, plus taxes & fees. Monthly contracts are not eligible for the 30% annual-contract discount. | $19.99 per month per seat | Sep 24, 2026 |

| Advanced (month-to-month) Standard month-to-month rate, no annual contract, per line per month, plus taxes & fees. | $39.99 per month per seat | Sep 24, 2026 |
Fees and other costs
| Cost | Kind | Amount | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Termination Fee (annual contract) Cancelling service during an annual contract term triggers an Early Termination Fee that can range up to the total remaining price of the service contract. No early termination fee applies to monthly (no-contract) plans, but cancelled monthly plans are not refunded. | Fee | See price on vonage.com | Sep 24, 2026 |
| Promo-rate expiry / auto-renewal at then-current rate The 30%-off promotional rate applies only for the duration of the annual contract; service and billing continue until cancelled, and on renewal the account is charged the then-current rate. | Renewal price | See price on vonage.com | Sep 24, 2026 |
What you get on Mobile
The pricing page lists "Unlimited domestic calling", "SMS and MMS" and "Supports desktop and mobile apps" on Mobile, and the comparison ticks the VBC admin portal on every plan. Vonage's Mobile Unlimited Extension page says it "Includes an extension number and a direct dial"; linking that to the Mobile plan is our reading of its help article.
What Mobile leaves out:
- Desk phones. The Premium card lists "Supports VoIP desk phones" as an addition.
- Video meetings. Premium adds unlimited meetings for up to 200 people.
- Call recording. Advanced adds on-demand recording, 15 hours a month.
- Team messaging. The comparison ticks it for Premium and Advanced only. A Vonage small-business page says Mobile includes team messaging; we use the pricing comparison, the worse reading.
- Call groups that ring several extensions at once are on Advanced.
Vonage's pages don't say which plans include its virtual receptionist (auto-attendant). Call queues appear only as a marketplace app with no price.
Catches and fine print
- Annual contracts. The pricing page says "Early Termination Fees for an annual contract term can range up to the total price of your service contract."
- Monthly plans. "There are no early termination fees for monthly contracts. However, if cancelled, no refunds will be provided."
- Renewal price. The terms say renewals are charged "the then-current rate".
- Fax is extra. Paperless fax is an add-on bought in the admin portal; its price isn't published.
- Not published: a free trial and a seat minimum.
Support
The pricing page lists "phone and chat support, 24/7 chatbot assistance for questions" plus a knowledge hub and case management. It gives no hours for phone or chat with a person; only the chatbot is 24/7.
Reliability and compliance
The platform page claims 99.999% uptime, then notes it is "based on Vonage's average up-time and/or availability". That is a past average, not a commitment, so our rubric doesn't count it.
On HIPAA, the terms of service mention "A BUSINESS ASSOCIATE AGREEMENT SIGNED BY VONAGE", but we found no page saying how to get one, on which plan or at what cost. Vonage's support article answers "Is Vonage SMS/MMS HIPAA compliant? No." See our HIPAA BAA guide.
Who it suits
Vonage suits a team that works from phones and laptops, doesn't need desk phones or meetings, and wants to pay month to month with no fee to leave.
Look elsewhere if you need desk phones, video meetings, team chat or call recording without moving up a plan, or support hours in writing. Our contracts and cancelling guide covers annual terms.
