HeyGen review: credits, not minutes, on the $24 Creator plan

HeyGen suits a creator or small team that wants a large stock-avatar library, voice cloning and many languages, with commercial rights, for $24 a month billed annually. The catch is that HeyGen publishes credits, not minutes, and the newest avatar models use them up fastest.
HeyGen's cheapest paid plan, Creator, costs $29 a month or $24 a month billed annually for 600 credits, 700+ stock avatars and 175+ languages. HeyGen doesn't publish a minute allowance: its credits buy between 12.5 and 150 minutes depending on the avatar model. Paid plans can remove the watermark, and its terms allow commercial use of output on Creator, Pro and Business.

What you get on Creator
Creator includes 600 credits a month, the comparison table's 700+ stock video avatars (Free has 500+), voice cloning, and "175+ languages and dialects" (Free has 30+).
The minutes depend on the avatar model. HeyGen's credits article charges per minute: Avatar III Video Look 4 credits (150 minutes from 600 credits), Avatar III Photo Look 7 (about 86 minutes), Avatar IV Photo Look 16 (37.5 minutes), Avatar IV Video Look 31 (about 19 minutes) and Avatar V 48 (12.5 minutes). HeyGen names no default model, so we don't record one minute figure.
On commercial use, HeyGen's terms include a "License to Your Content (For Users In the Creator, Pro and Business Plans)" that "does not restrict your ability to use User Output for your own purposes (including for commercial purposes)". Free-plan output is licensed for personal, non-commercial and internal evaluation purposes only.
Catches and fine print
- Budget by model. If you want the newest avatars, plan on 12.5 to 19 minutes a month on Creator, not 150.
- Watermark toggle. HeyGen's watermark article says "Removing the watermark is available on all paid plans". It is on by default and you switch it off when you submit each video.
- Pro scales steeply. Pro starts at $49 a month for 1,000 credits and runs up to 100,000 credits at $4,300.
- Seats. Creator is 1 seat. Extra seats are sold only on Business, at $20 a seat a month on top of $149.
- Annual prices. Pro and Business annual prices appear only after you switch the card to "Yearly".
