Ecwid review: $5 Starter for 10 products, and what it leaves out
Updated Oct 15, 2026 · scored under rubric v1
Ecwid suits a very small shop with up to 10 products that wants to sell for $5 a month. The catch is how much Starter leaves out: no coupons, no inventory tracking, no own domain, and its pages don't mention a free trial.
Ecwid by Lightspeed's Starter plan costs $5 a month for up to 10 products, and Ecwid charges no setup or transaction fees. Lightspeed Payments charges 2.9% + 0.30 USD per US online sale. Starter lacks discount coupons, inventory tracking and connecting your own domain, which start on Venture ($29 a month paid annually). Wholesale customer groups start on Business ($49).
What it does well
- Starter is $5 a month, billed monthly or annually
- No setup or transaction fees from Ecwid on any plan
- Free company.site address with a TLS certificate on Starter
- Wholesale pricing groups and order quantity limits on Business
Where it falls short
- Starter holds only 10 products
- No coupons, inventory tracking or own-domain connection on Starter
- Its US pages don't mention a free plan or free trial
- Its pages don't say which payment methods Starter can use
Ecwid by Lightspeed is an online store builder that runs as its own site or adds a store to a website you already have. It has four paid plans and uses Lightspeed Payments as its own processor.

What you get on Starter
Starter lets you start selling with up to 10 products on a free mystore.company.site address with a TLS certificate. Ecwid says "we don't charge any setup or transaction fees on any of our plans".
Lightspeed Payments charges "United States: 2.9% + 0.30 USD" per online transaction, about $1.75 on a $50 sale. Its payment gateways help article adds that Ecwid charges no additional transaction fees with other gateways.
Catches and fine print
- Starter is bare. The pricing table marks discount coupons, inventory tracking and connecting an existing domain as not included on Starter. Coupons and a custom domain start on Venture. Abandoned carts recovery starts on Business.
- Which payment methods Starter can use is unclear. Ecwid's plans help table leaves "70+ payment methods" unticked for Starter, while its payment pages name no plan restriction. Neither page says whether Starter can use Lightspeed Payments. Ask before you build.
- No free trial mentioned. We found no free plan or trial on Ecwid's US pages. The only free offer we saw is 6 months of Venture for nonprofits.
- Annual prices by default. The pricing page opens on annual billing (save 16%). Starter is the same $5 either way.
- Wholesale is a discount, not a price list. On Business, customer groups can hold wholesale or B2B clients and get a storewide discount. Its wholesale article says group members see standard prices in the catalog, and suggests a separate wholesale store for different prices or minimum order amounts. We found no net payment terms or purchase orders.
Support
The Business plan card lists phone support. The pages we read don't say what support Starter and Venture get.
Who it suits
Ecwid fits a very small shop with a handful of products that wants to sell for $5 a month, including one adding a store to an existing website. Business suits a wholesaler that is happy to give a group discount rather than separate prices.
Look elsewhere if you have more than 10 products and don't want $29 a month, if you need coupons or your own domain from day one, or if you want to try the platform free first.
