Switching from HeyGen: download in 1080p before your plan ends
Updated Oct 15, 2026
Download your HeyGen videos while your paid plan runs: after cancelling, the account drops to the Free plan, which lists a 720p sharing link instead of 1080p export. Unused credits expire, and the terms say payments are non-refundable. The terms let paid-plan users use their videos commercially but don't say whether that lasts on Free. None of Vidnoz, D-ID or Synthesia names a HeyGen importer, so expect to rebuild custom avatars.
The steps
- Step 1 · not stated on its pages · not stated on its pages
Download the videos you want to keep
In Projects, open the '...' menu on each video and choose Download. The same place gives the audio alone or an SRT captions file. 4K needs Pro or higher; SCORM needs Business or Enterprise.
source - Step 2 · not stated on its pages · Unused credits don't carry over
Use or lose your credits
After cancelling, the account moves to the Free plan and unused credits do not carry over, so spend them while the paid plan runs.
source - Step 3 · About 10 minutes (Vidnoz Avatar Lite) · not stated on its pages
Rebuild your custom avatar at the new tool
HeyGen's download article describes no avatar or voice-clone export. Vidnoz processes a custom Avatar Lite in about 10 minutes from a 1-minute speech video; a D-ID V3 Pro avatar is created within 24 hours, and a Synthesia personal avatar usually takes about 1 business day.
source - Step 4 · not stated on its pages · not stated on its pages
Import slides and media
Vidnoz imports PowerPoint files under 100MB; D-ID takes images, GIFs and video clips; Synthesia imports .pptx files up to 1 GB or 150 slides.
source - Step 5 · Takes effect at the end of the billing cycle · Annual plans: unused months are not prorated or automatically refunded
Cancel HeyGen
Settings > Plan & Billing, then the arrow next to Manage Billing > Cancel Plan.
source - Step 6 · Six months of inactivity · Free
Keep an eye on the Free account
Your content stays on the Free plan, but HeyGen may delete a Free account that goes unused for six months.

- Ownership of what you made; the terms don't say whether paid-plan commercial use lasts once you're on Free
- Your content stays on the Free plan if you log in
What you lose
- Unused credits
- Custom avatars and voice clones: no export is described
- 1080p export once the account drops to Free
- No HeyGen importer named by Vidnoz, D-ID or Synthesia

Leaving HeyGen is mostly about timing. Your paid features last until the end of the billing cycle, and after that the account drops to the Free plan. Everything below comes from HeyGen's own help centre, terms and pricing page, and from the destinations' pages, read Sep 30, 2026.
Download before the cycle ends
HeyGen's download article works like this: in Projects, open the "..." menu on a video and choose Download. The same screen gives you the audio alone or an SRT captions file. 4K downloads are for Pro, Business and Enterprise only, and SCORM export is for Business and Enterprise.
Do this while you still pay. HeyGen's plan overview lists a "720p video sharing link" on the Free plan and "1080p video export" on Creator. No article describes exporting custom avatars, voice clones or project files, so expect to rebuild those.
Cancelling, refunds and credits
You cancel in Settings > Plan & Billing > the arrow next to Manage Billing > Cancel Plan, per HeyGen's cancel article. Plans renew automatically until you cancel, per the terms. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle; on annual plans, unused months are not prorated or refunded.
HeyGen's pages disagree on refunds. The terms say "Payments are non-refundable, except where required by law." The refund article says web purchases may be refunded within 15 days, case by case, and may be refused if you have used a lot of credits. We go by the terms: don't count on a refund. No early termination fee is mentioned.
Credits don't survive the move. HeyGen's pricing FAQ says that after cancelling "your account moves to the Free plan. Unused credits do not carry over." Pausing instead of cancelling also wipes your credit balance.
Your videos and your rights
For Creator, Pro and Business users, the terms say you own your output and HeyGen "does not restrict your ability to use User Output for your own purposes (including for commercial purposes)". The exception is termination: if HeyGen ends your account for breaking its rules, you must stop using and delete what you made. Free-plan output is licensed for personal, non-commercial use only; the terms don't say whether that reaches videos you made while paying, so keep the files you downloaded on a paid plan.
Content stays in the account after you cancel. But the same terms let HeyGen delete a Free account that goes unused for six months.
Where to go
None of these three names a HeyGen importer. What moves is your downloaded video, your slides and scripts, and a new recording of yourself for a custom avatar. Compare the whole field on our AI avatar video ranking.
Vidnoz. Its PowerPoint import takes files under 100MB. A custom Avatar Lite needs a 1-minute speech video and takes about 10 minutes to process. Starter costs $13.50 a month billed yearly, or $26.99 billed monthly for 450 credits. Prices from its pricing page, read Sep 27, 2026.
D-ID. You can upload your own images, GIFs and video clips, and Pro includes a PowerPoint Add-in. A V3 Pro avatar is made from a 3:30-minute video and created within 24 hours, on Pro and higher. Mind the licence: Lite is personal use only, and commercial use starts on Pro at $16 a month billed annually or $29 monthly. Prices from its pricing page, read Sep 25, 2026.
Synthesia. It imports PowerPoint files up to 1 GB or 150 slides and turns speaker notes into the script. A personal avatar usually takes about 1 business day. Its licence bars stock avatars from paid ads and TV without permission. Starter costs $29 a month or $264 a year. Prices from its pricing page, read Sep 25, 2026.
Who should switch
Switching suits you if you have a handful of finished videos and can re-record a custom avatar. If you depend on 4K output or SCORM packages, check the new plan offers them before you cancel. Our methodology explains how we compare plans.
