Switching from Trello: what a board export carries and the 30-day refund window
Updated Oct 6, 2026
Any board member can export a Trello board to JSON on any plan, but it holds only the 1,000 most recent actions. All comments and raw attachments need a Premium Workspace export run by an admin. Cancel on the web; the plan runs to the end of its billing period, and refunds apply only in the first 30 days of upgrading. ClickUp and Teamwork.com have Trello importers; Zoho Projects takes files.
The steps

Export each board to JSON

source - Step 5 · Not stated; Teamwork.com emails you when it's done · not stated on its pages
Or import into Teamwork.com
Each Trello board is imported as a project. Imported members get temporary email addresses that you must update to their real ones.
source - Step 6 · Within the first 30 days of upgrading · Refunds only within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace
Check the refund window
Refunds are available only within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace. Subscriptions are paid in advance, monthly or annually.
source - Step 7 · Takes effect at the end of the billing period · not stated on its pages

Trello makes it easy to get a board out and harder to get everything out. What you can export depends on your plan. Facts below are from each company's own pages, read Oct 1, 2026.
Leaving Trello
What the export gives you. Trello's export article says any board member can export a board to JSON, on any plan. CSV export needs a Premium Workspace. Trello can't re-create a board from either file.
What it leaves out. A board's JSON export holds only the 1,000 most recent actions, and comments count as actions. On a busy board, older comments fall outside it. CSV leaves comments out entirely, and skips archived cards. Cards in your Inbox can't be exported at all.
Getting every comment and file. For a full copy, a Workspace admin on Premium can export all boards as CSV and JSON from the Workspace settings. Ticking "Include raw attachments" adds the files in their original formats inside a ZIP. Without it, the export only links to files hosted on Trello. If you're on Standard or Free, that leaves the per-board JSON.
Cancelling. A Workspace admin cancels on the web; the desktop and mobile apps can't manage subscriptions. The plan runs to the end of its billing period, then the Workspace becomes free. Trello states no notice period and no early termination fee. Refunds are a different story: Trello's billing article offers them only within the first 30 days of upgrading a Workspace.
Your data after cancelling. The free Workspace keeps its 10 most active boards open. Other boards are closed, not deleted, and data from paid features is hidden, not deleted. Trello's own advice is to export before downgrading. Atlassian's cloud licensing page, which Trello's billing article links, is stricter: data from cancelled paid cloud subscriptions is deleted 60 days after cancellation. It doesn't name Trello, but we use that stricter reading: export everything before the billing period ends.
Where to go
ClickUp has a named Trello importer. Boards come in as Spaces; you can also create a new Folder or add them to an existing area. ClickUp's import page headline says moving takes "less than 60 seconds" and is free. It doesn't list which items come across, such as comments or attachments. ClickUp's help centre showed a robot check, so we couldn't read the details there. The same page also takes CSV or Excel files.
Zoho Projects doesn't name Trello among its importers or on its migration page. Its file importer takes CSV, XLS or JSON files, up to 5,000 tasks at a time. Zoho's pages don't say whether it reads Trello's JSON as it is, and Trello's CSV needs Premium, so expect some spreadsheet work. Its migration page offers to assist and guide you, but Trello isn't on its list of supported migrations, and it states no price.
Teamwork.com has a Trello importer. Each Trello board is imported as a project. One catch: Trello doesn't share members' email addresses. Imported members get temporary, non-working email addresses that you must update to their real ones. The page gives no duration; Teamwork.com emails you when the import is done. Its onboarding packages list assisted imports of clients, projects, tasks and timelogs in the Success package, shown at $2,500 on that page.
Who should move, and who should wait
If you're on Premium, run the Workspace export with attachments before the billing period ends. If you're on Standard or Free, export each board to JSON, and accept that only recent comments come with it. A direct importer such as ClickUp's or Teamwork.com's skips that file step, though neither page lists which comments or attachments it carries.
