Switching from Asana: the 30-day renewal notice and what a project export leaves out

Updated Oct 15, 2026

The short answer

Export each Asana project as JSON or CSV; that works on every plan. A full export with comments and attachments is only on Enterprise+ (or legacy Enterprise), so an importer that reads Asana directly matters. Asana gives no refunds, and its Subscriber Terms ask for notice 30 days before renewal. ClickUp and Teamwork.com have named Asana importers; Zoho Projects lists Asana among the migrations it supports.

Leaving Asana is mostly about timing and about what a project export carries. You can export any project today, but comments and attachments are a different matter. Facts below are from each company's own pages, read Oct 1, 2026.

Leaving Asana

When to cancel. Asana's help centre says you can cancel a paid plan at any time, effective at the next renewal date. A billing owner, admin or super admin can do it, under Plan details. The same article says cancelling is subject to the Subscriber Terms. Those Subscriber Terms renew a subscription for the same term, at Asana's then-current rates, unless you give notice at least 30 days before the renewal date. We use that stricter reading: cancel at least 30 days before you renew.

Refunds. The pricing page is plain: "We do not offer refunds." You keep paid features until the end of the period you've paid for. Asana doesn't name a separate early termination fee.

What the export gives you. Any plan, Personal included, can export a project as JSON or CSV.

What it leaves out. Asana's privacy and security article lists comments, attachments and subtasks only for the full organization export. That export is a single JSON file, and it is available on Enterprise+ (and legacy Enterprise). Asana's pricing table lists organization exports as a compliance add-on. Its pages don't say whether a single project's CSV or JSON includes comments or files. If your team relies on comment threads, an importer that reads Asana directly is the safer route.

Your data after cancelling. The pages differ here. The help centre says downgrading doesn't delete data, though you lose access to paid features such as rules, goals and portfolios. The pricing page goes further: when a subscription expires you lose access to paid features "and all data associated with those features." The Subscriber Terms say Asana may deactivate the account when the subscription ends. It keeps data for export only if you ask in writing within 30 days. We use the stricter reading: finish your exports before the renewal date.

Where to go

ClickUp has a named Asana importer. You map Asana projects to an existing Folder or a new Space. ClickUp's import page headline says moving takes "less than 60 seconds" and is free. That page doesn't list which items come across, such as comments or attachments. ClickUp's help centre showed a robot check, so we couldn't read the details there. ClickUp's import page also takes CSV or Excel files.

Zoho Projects lists Asana among the migrations it supports and says it will assist and guide you. It doesn't state a price or a timeframe. You can also do it yourself: its file importer takes CSV, XLS or JSON files, up to 5,000 tasks at a time, with subtasks.

Teamwork.com spells out what its Asana importer moves. Tasks, subtasks, comments and files come across. Custom fields, dependencies other than subtasks, and recurring tasks do not. The page gives no duration; Teamwork.com emails you when the import is done. If you want help, its onboarding packages list assisted imports of clients, projects, tasks and timelogs in the Success package, shown at $2,500 on that page.

Who should move, and who should wait

If your renewal is more than 30 days away, export now and give notice in good time. You pay to the end of the period either way. If you mostly need tasks, any of the three can take them in. If comment threads and files matter, Teamwork.com's importer names them, while ClickUp's import page doesn't say. A team without Enterprise+ can't take Asana's full export.
