Switching from LastPass: 30 days' notice and what the export leaves out
Updated Oct 6, 2026
Each user exports their LastPass vault as a CSV file. Attachments, TOTP codes, custom fields and passkeys don't come with it. Teams and Business renewals are cancelled through your LastPass representative or Support; the Business Terms ask for notice at least 30 days before the term ends, and there's no refund. RoboForm, Zoho Vault and Proton Pass all publish a LastPass import path.
The steps
- Step 1 · At least 30 days before your term ends · Payments are final and non-refundable
Check your renewal date and give notice
LastPass Business terms renew the subscription for 12-month periods unless you give notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the term ends. Payments are final and non-refundable.

Turn off the "Prohibit export" policy
On Teams and Business, an admin's "Prohibit export" policy blocks vault exports. Check it before asking people to export.
source - Step 3 · Confirm the emailed link within 10 minutes · not stated on its pages
Have each user export their vault as a CSV
From the LastPass website: Advanced options > Export, then confirm the emailed link. Use the generic CSV; the encrypted export is meant for importing back into LastPass.

Save what the export leaves out
Attachments, TOTP codes, custom item types and custom fields don't export. Keep copies of attachments and list the one-time codes you'll need to set up again.

Plan new passkeys
Passkeys can't be exported to a CSV file, so set up new passkeys for those sites at your new password manager.

Rescue shared folders
When company accounts convert to personal ones, users keep their items except shared folders. In LastPass Business, an admin can transfer user vaults into their own account as shared folders and export them. Do this before you delete the company account.

Import into RoboForm
RoboForm's LastPass page says importing from LastPass to RoboForm is "as easy as 1-2-3".

Or import into Zoho Vault
In Zoho Vault, go to Settings > Import Passwords, select LastPass and upload the CSV. Mark items as Enterprise if they need to be shared.

Or import into Proton Pass
Proton Pass's import tool migrates from most major password managers and has a LastPass guide: select LastPass from the Provider list and drag in the .csv file you exported.

Ask LastPass Support to cancel the renewal
Teams and Business renewals are cancelled by contacting your LastPass representative or LastPass Support, not in the vault.

Leaving LastPass takes two kinds of planning: every user's vault export, and the renewal date. Facts below are from each company's own pages, read Oct 1, 2026.
Leaving LastPass
When you can cancel. For Teams and Business, LastPass says to contact your assigned representative or LastPass Support to cancel the renewal. Its Business Terms of Service renew the subscription for 12-month periods unless notice of non-renewal comes at least 30 days before the term ends. Plans are prepaid, and LastPass says a refund is not provided; the plan keeps working until it expires. The company account article warns that the remaining balance isn't refunded if you cancel early.
What the export gives you. Each user exports their own vault: passwords, notes, form fills and Wi-Fi passwords, as a CSV file. From the LastPass website, it's Advanced options > Export, confirmed by an email link that expires after 10 minutes. The other option, an encrypted export, is locked with a one-time key and meant for importing back into LastPass. For a move, use the generic CSV.
What doesn't move. The export skips attachments, TOTP codes, custom item types and custom fields. Passkeys can't be exported to a CSV file at all, so plan to create new ones at the new manager. Admins can also block exports with a "Prohibit export" policy. Turn it off before you ask people to export.
Shared folders. When company accounts convert to personal ones, users keep their vault items except for shared folders. In LastPass Business, an admin can transfer user vaults into their own account as shared folders, then export them.
Your data after cancelling. LastPass's pages differ here. The cancellation FAQs say cancelling Teams or Business converts users' accounts to LastPass Free or, if eligible, a Premium trial, and recommend exporting your vault before you cancel. The Terms say that after termination LastPass gives limited access on request, for no more than 30 days, to retrieve or delete data, and has no duty to keep it after that. We use the stricter reading: finish every export before the term ends.
Where to go
RoboForm says importing from LastPass is "as easy as 1-2-3." Its home page says it imports from major password managers or a CSV. RoboForm's step-by-step help article showed a robot check when we read it, so the importer's details aren't covered here. For business rollouts, its business page mentions guided setup and dedicated onboarding engineers, and says teams can be "up and running in hours, not weeks."
Zoho Vault has a named LastPass import: Settings > Import Passwords > LastPass, then upload the CSV. Only items classified as Enterprise can be shared with others. Zoho's Vault page lists free migration and onboarding assistance. Its pages don't say how long an import takes.
Proton Pass has built-in support for importing from LastPass: select LastPass from the Provider list and drag in the .csv file you exported. Proton's import page says a move from most major password managers takes "just a few minutes." Its import pages don't mention a migration service.
Who should move, and who should wait
If your LastPass term renews soon, give notice now: you need at least 30 days. If your team keeps attachments, passkeys or one-time codes in LastPass, list them before anyone exports, because none of them come across in the CSV. Teams with mostly plain logins and notes can move to any of the three. If you'd rather have help with the import, Zoho Vault's pages list free migration and onboarding assistance; RoboForm's business page mentions dedicated onboarding engineers. Compare the options on our password manager ranking, see the page for agencies, and read how we score them in the methodology.
