How we score Registered agent services
Rubric v1, published Sep 26, 2026 · See the ranking
We score each registered agent service on its standard single-state service using only what the company publishes on its own website: the yearly price after any introductory offer, what is included, where it operates, how you cancel, and support hours. Every score is worked out by the formula shown for its criterion, and every fact behind it links to the page it came from, with the date we read it.
A fact the company does not publish counts as absent. We have not used these services; when we do, the method will say so and the rubric version will change.
The criteria
| Criterion | Weight | What a 10 and a 0 look like |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly price | 40% | The published yearly price for one state after any first-year discount or free first year (the renewal rate). 10 at $50 or less, 0 at $300 or more, straight line between. Quote-only scores 0. |
| Included | 30% | Which of five the standard service includes at no extra charge: scanning of legal papers and state mail, same-day notice of service of process, an online account, annual-report or compliance reminders, its address on public filings in place of yours. 2 points each. |
| Cancellation | 10% | 10 if you can cancel with no fee and get a pro-rated refund; 6 if you can cancel with no fee but no refund; 0 if there is a cancellation or resignation fee, or the terms are not published. |
| Coverage | 10% | 10 if the company says it serves all 50 states and DC; 5 if it lists fewer; 0 if not published. |
| Support | 10% | Support for registered-agent customers: 24/7 phone and chat 10; 24/7 on one channel 7; business-hours phone and chat 6; chat or email only 3; not published 0. |
The overall score is 10 × the sum of weight × criterion score, from 0 to 100, shown as 0-10 with one decimal.
