Switching from Brevo: export subscription status, then watch the Free-plan clock

Updated Oct 15, 2026

The short answer

Export your Brevo contacts as CSV with the Subscriptions section opened, so unsubscribes come along. Cancelling drops you to Free at the end of the billing period; the rest of the term stays payable, with no refund of prepaid fees. A Free account unused for 4 months is deleted. Kit and AWeber migrate for free (Kit on paid plans, in 2-5 business days). Mailchimp imports the CSV one status at a time. Authenticate your domain there.

Brevo lets you cancel whenever you like, but the plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. After that, the Free account it leaves behind has a clock on it. Facts below are from each company's own pages, read Sep 30, 2026.

Leaving Brevo

Contacts, with consent status. Brevo exports contacts and their attributes as a CSV. Open the Subscriptions section in the export window and select the subscription statuses you want. That's how unsubscribes come with you. Brevo says an export may take a few minutes. Daily exports have been deprecated since May 30th, 2025.

Everything else. Brevo's account-closure guide lists what each app lets you retrieve. That includes contacts and companies with their attributes, forms as HTML, campaigns as PDF or HTML, and templates as PDF.

Cancelling. You can cancel your subscription at any time, and the account drops to the Free plan at the end of the billing period. A yearly Professional plan is cancelled by support ticket. Brevo's terms say plans renew automatically. Professional plans need written notice at least 15 calendar days before renewal.

Refunds and early exit. The terms call the subscription non-cancellable before the end of its term and give no refunds of prepaid or unused fees. The refund article adds that unused months aren't refunded if you forgot to cancel, and credits are refunded only in listed cases, such as a technical error by Brevo. Closing your account doesn't end the subscription. Brevo's provider-switching section charges the rest of the term as an early termination fee, and adds a EUR 1,000 flat fee on Professional plans. We use that stricter reading.

Your data afterwards. Cancelling keeps your data on the Free plan. But a Free account unused for 4 months is deleted, and its data can't be restored. Closing the account loses all data, though Brevo keeps aggregated data for three months.

Where to go

Kit doesn't describe a Brevo importer; it names dedicated importers for platforms such as Mailchimp or Drip. You import the CSV and map fields to Kit's. On any paid plan, Kit's team moves you for free. It takes 2-5 business days for accounts under 10K subscribers, and Kit says your emails and forms keep working meanwhile.

AWeber offers a free migration service from your current provider. It moves lists, tags, subscribers, up to 3 templates, forms, automations and landing pages. If you import yourself, a manual review should take no longer than one business day.

Mailchimp imports a CSV file, pasted contacts or a connected app. It takes one marketing status per import, so bring your subscribed and unsubscribed contacts in as separate files. Its switching page offers onboarding support through your first 90 days but gives no timeline.

Set up sending before you send

Each new provider needs its own records on your domain. Mailchimp says Gmail and Yahoo require custom authentication. They also require a DMARC record from those who send more than 5,000 emails. Kit and AWeber walk you through DKIM and DMARC.

Who should move

If you want the move done for you, Kit (on a paid plan) or AWeber will do it for free. Cancel close to your renewal date, since the rest of the term isn't refunded. Keep your exports safe before you close the leftover Free account or leave it unused for 4 months. Compare options on our email marketing ranking and our methodology.
