Switching from Wix: the site stays behind, your data and domain can move

A Wix site must run on Wix's servers and can't be hosted elsewhere, so you rebuild the pages on the new builder. Contacts (up to 50,000 per export) and store products export as CSV files. Transfer the domain with an EPP code once it is 60 days past purchase; a transfer usually takes up to 7 days. Wix refunds only within 14 days of a first purchase.

Export contacts and products

What you can and can't export
Wix says your site must run on Wix's servers, because it is a SaaS product, and you can't use another host for it. Plan to recreate the pages on the new builder.
Data is another matter. You can export up to 50,000 contacts at once to a CSV file, and store products to CSV with their data. Two limits: digital products don't export, and each product file holds up to 5,000 rows.
Moving your domain
To transfer a Wix domain away, Wix sends an EPP code to the domain's registrant contact email address. A transfer "usually takes up to 7 days". You can't transfer a domain within 60 days of purchase. In the meantime you can keep the domain at Wix and point it to your new site. Wix names no transfer fee; after the move, renewals are priced by the new host. If you use business email on the domain, add the MX records again after the transfer or the email stops.
Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel your plan at any time. The plan stays active to the end of its term. Watch the date: Wix says a plan "may renew up to 3 weeks before the expiration date". Cancelling the plan doesn't cancel domains, business email or apps; each needs its own cancellation.
Site plans have a 14-day money-back guarantee for first purchases, and the policy doesn't apply to renewals. After that window you keep the plan to its end date, with no refund. Wix's Light plan, the cheapest with your own domain, is $17 a month billed yearly.
Cancelling doesn't delete anything. The site reverts to a free Wix address with Wix ads with all content intact. If you move it to trash, it can be restored for 90 days before permanent deletion.
Where to move
Neither builder below names a Wix importer on the pages we read, so both mean a rebuild plus CSV imports. We couldn't read Webflow's help centre, which showed a robot check.
- Webflow offers bulk import via CSV files into its CMS collections, which suits a blog or a product list. Its Basic plan is described as for "simple sites that don't need a CMS", at $15 a month billed yearly or $25 monthly. The CMS plan, Premium, is $25 a month billed yearly.
- Squarespace imports products or contacts from a .csv file, plus content from WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr. Wix isn't on that list. Its Basic plan is $19 a month billed annually, or $25 monthly.

Who should switch, and who should stay
Switch if your pages are simple enough to rebuild and your data lives in contacts and products. Stay, or wait, if your site is large or relies on Wix apps, because the site itself can't leave Wix's servers. Either way, cancel before the early renewal can land.
