Switching from Carrd: your domain is already yours, the download needs Pro Plus

Updated Oct 15, 2026

The short answer

Carrd doesn't register domains, so you keep yours and repoint its DNS records to the new builder; there is no transfer lock or code at Carrd. Downloading a site's HTML, CSS and JS needs Pro Plus ($49 a year), and forms won't work in the download. Carrd's terms say it isn't required to refund anything; turn off auto-renew to stop the next charge.

The steps

  1. Step 1 · May take a few minutes to prepare, per Carrd · Needs Pro Plus, $49 a year

Download the site if you need the code

Pro Plus and higher can download the site's unminified HTML, CSS and JS. Forms won't work in the download, and it can't be uploaded back to Carrd.

  2. Step 2 · not stated on its pages · not stated on its pages

Rebuild the page on the new builder

None of the destinations names a Carrd importer on the pages read; recreate the page, and use CSV imports for CMS content or contacts.

  3. Step 3 · not stated on its pages · No Carrd fee

    Repoint your domain

Carrd doesn't register domains: your domain is at your own registrar. Change its DNS records there to point at the new builder. No transfer lock, code or Carrd fee applies.

  4. Step 4 · not stated on its pages · not stated on its pages

Set up redirects for changed URLs

Wix's guide on moving a site to Wix uses URL redirects to keep search rankings when old addresses change.

  5. Step 5 · not stated on its pages · No fee stated

    Turn off Carrd auto-renew

Turn off auto-renew in your account; the plan then won't renew automatically, though you can still renew it by hand. Auto-renewal is optional, so this is only needed if you turned it on.

  6. Step 6 · Two weeks · No fee stated

Delete the account if you want the data gone

Deleting the account permanently deletes all sites and account data in two weeks.

Leaving Carrd is mostly rebuilding the page and moving a few DNS records, because the domain was never Carrd's. Everything below comes from the companies' own pages, read Sep 30, 2026.

Getting your site out

Carrd can download a site as its unminified HTML, CSS and JS, but only on Pro Plus or higher. Carrd's Pro page lists Pro Plus at $49 a year, against $19 for Pro Standard. Two limits: forms and other Carrd features "will, while visibly present, not be functional in this download", and the download can't be uploaded back to Carrd.

For a one-page site, the download is mostly a reference. None of the builders below names a Carrd importer on the pages we read, so expect to rebuild the page.

Your domain

Carrd doesn't sell domains. Its custom domain guide says the domain "must be registered before you can use it on Carrd", and you point it with DNS records set at your own domain provider. So there is no Carrd transfer lock, authorization code or transfer fee. When the new site is ready, change those records at your registrar to what the new builder asks for.

Cancelling and refunds

Carrd plans are yearly, and auto-renewal is optional: you can "simply pay as you go". If you turned it on, turn off auto-renew from your account. The plan then won't renew.

Don't count on money back. Carrd's terms say it "IS NOT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE A REFUND FOR ANY REASON", and any refund is at its discretion. Downgrading to a cheaper plan adds a prorated credit to your Carrd balance instead.

When a renewal fails, the terms say the account drops to the free Basic plan and sites lose Pro features, which includes the custom domain. The pages don't say separately what happens when a pay-as-you-go plan simply runs out. Deleting the account removes all sites and data after two weeks.

Where to move

None of the three states a migration service or a time estimate on the pages we read. Prices from Carrd's, Wix's, Webflow's and Squarespace's pricing pages, read Sep 27, 2026.

Who should switch

Carrd's Pro Standard costs $19 a year, so every destination above costs more. Move when you've outgrown one page: a blog, a store, or support beyond a contact form. If you only need a single page on your own domain, staying is the cheaper choice. See the website builder ranking and the methodology.
