Rocket Lawyer review: a $0 LLC filing that needs a $149 membership

Updated Oct 1, 2026 · scored under rubric v1

Verdict

Rocket Lawyer suits a founder who wants a legal-documents membership anyway and gets the LLC filing thrown in. The catch is that the $0 filing needs a $149-a-year membership, and the EIN and registered agent need a dearer one.

Rocket Lawyer's first LLC registration is $0 plus state fees, but it requires a membership. The cheapest, Standard, is $149 a year or $34.99 a month and renews automatically. The EIN ($70) and registered agent ($124.99 a year) are sold only with Plus ($249 a year) or Pro ($349 a year). Its terms give no refunds on incorporation-related payments.

What it does well

  • First LLC, PLLC or professional corporation registration is $0 with a membership
  • Membership includes unlimited documents and e-signatures
  • Phone support on weekdays, plus email and chat
  • Registered agent at $124.99 a year for Plus and Pro members

Where it falls short

  • The $0 filing requires a membership: Standard is $149 a year and renews
  • EIN and registered agent need Plus ($249 a year) or Pro ($349 a year)
  • No refunds on incorporation-related payments
  • No processing time published
  • Its pages don't say the filing includes an operating agreement

Rocket Lawyer sells legal memberships (documents, AI Q&A, attorney access) that include one free LLC, corporation or nonprofit registration, with EIN and registered agent services for higher tiers.

What you get with a Standard membership

The LLC filing is "starting at $0 with a Rocket Lawyer membership (excluding state fees)". The offer "requires a current Rocket Lawyer membership", so the real entry cost is the $149-a-year Standard membership.

Standard includes unlimited legal documents and e-signatures, and "Legal reminders" about contract changes and deadlines. The pricing table shows the EIN, registered agent and annual report filing as not included in Standard. No page says the registration comes with an operating agreement, though Rocket Lawyer publishes an operating agreement template among its documents. It publishes no processing time for registrations.

Catches and fine print

  • The membership renews. Its terms say "certain services, such as registered agent services, monthly plans and annual plans, automatically renew". Standard comes with a 7-day free trial, then bills automatically. The $149 recurs each year until you cancel.
  • Plus or Pro for the basics. The EIN and the agent are sold only to Plus and Pro members. Its registered agent page gives the price as $125 in one place and $124.99 in another.
  • Refunds. The terms say: "We do not offer refunds" on payments "collected for incorporation-related" services. Other refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase. There is also no refund when an annual plan was bought alongside a discounted product.
  • No address or mail service. Its pages don't say it offers a business address or mail service.
  • Owners outside the US. Its pages don't say it forms LLCs for non-US owners, and the EIN page doesn't say whether it can get an EIN without an SSN.

Support

Phone "Monday–Friday, 6am–6pm PT", plus email and chat listed in the footer of every page. Chat hours aren't stated.

PLLCs and trades

Rocket Lawyer registers professional entities ("Your PLLC or PC registration"), $0 for the first with a membership and $99 each after that. It files DBAs for $100 with a Pro membership (state fees excluded). Its pages don't mention a business licence research service.

Who it suits

Rocket Lawyer suits a founder who wants ongoing access to legal documents and e-signatures and will pay $149 a year for them anyway. Doctors and other licensed professionals get a PLLC or PC filing on the same terms. Look elsewhere if you only want the LLC filed, or want the EIN and agent without a higher membership.
