GoDaddy review: $5.99 for 3 years, then $15.32, plus an SSL renewal
Updated Oct 6, 2026 · scored under rubric v1
GoDaddy Economy suits a single-site owner who wants daily backups and a phone line at any hour, and will prepay three years: $5.99 a month, then $15.32. The catch: the renewal is high, and a paid SSL certificate renews at $119.99 a year unless you cancel it.
GoDaddy Web Hosting Economy costs $5.99 a month on a 3-year term ($215.64 upfront), then auto-renews at $551.63 for the next 3 years, which works out to $15.32 a month. It includes automatic daily backups, a free domain and Microsoft 365 email for the first year, and 24/7 phone support. Its Standard SSL renews at $119.99 a year after year one; the free AutoSSL stays included.
What it does well
- Automatic daily backups on every Web Hosting plan
- 24/7 phone support on the entry plan
- Free domain and Microsoft 365 email for the first year
- Full refund within 30 days on annual plans
Where it falls short
- Renews at $551.63 for 3 years, $15.32 a month, per its dated renewal line
- Standard SSL renews at $119.99 a year after the first year
- No renewal price published for Deluxe, Ultimate or the WordPress plans
- Only a 36-month term shown for Economy; no WooCommerce plan

What you get on Web Hosting Economy
"Economy Hosting includes: 1 website, 25 GB storage, unmetered bandwidth, free domain and free email." In detail:
- Automatic daily backups: "Recover your entire hosting account from the previous day."
- Free AutoSSL, "included in your hosting plan as an alternative to paid SSL certificates", plus a Standard SSL certificate free for one year.
- A free domain for the first year on annual (12-month or longer) plans, plus a $0.20 ICANN fee.
- Microsoft 365 Email Essentials, shown as "Free for 1 year" with 2 mailboxes.
- Staging: its pages don't list one for Economy.
Catches and fine print
- Renewal: two readings. The Economy card shows a crossed-out $11.99 a month but never calls it the renewal price. The cheap hosting offer says: "You pay $215.64 today. Hosting auto-renews Sep. 2029 at $551.63." GoDaddy's terms renew services for a period of equal length, so we use $551.63 over 36 months, $15.32 a month, the worse reading. The date in that line moves with the day you read it.
- The paid SSL renews by itself. "SSL renews annually at $119.99." The free AutoSSL is separate, so check before the first year ends whether you need the paid certificate.
- Other renewals are unpublished. Deluxe, Ultimate and the WordPress plans print no renewal price; a footnote says "Product renewal pricing subject to change".
- Term. Economy's order page offered only 36 months. Its pages don't say whether it can be paid month to month.
- Refunds. Its refund policy gives annual plans 30 days (720 hours) and monthly plans 48 hours. The page says: "If you're not satisfied, we'll issue a full refund."
- No WooCommerce plan. Its WooCommerce hosting page returns 404, and WordPress Ultimate calls WooCommerce "an optional installation".
Support
"Our Web Hosting experts are happy to help you, 24/7", via "chat, phone, or email" (source). A footnote says calls at busy times may go to representatives outside the U.S.
Who it suits
Economy suits one small business site whose owner wants a phone line at any hour and daily backups without an add-on, and who will prepay three years. Deluxe, with 10 websites, puts GoDaddy on our agencies list, though its renewal price is not published.
Look elsewhere if you plan to keep the site past three years on a tight budget, need more than one site on the entry plan, or run a WooCommerce store.
