Switching from ZenBusiness: agent and compliance, not the filing

Updated Oct 6, 2026

The short answer

Switching from ZenBusiness means moving its ongoing services, mainly the registered agent and Worry-Free Compliance ($199 a year each). Its support confirms your new agent is in place before cancelling its own. ZenBusiness requires written proof and says you pay for its resignation, and a cancellation fee may apply in the first 12 months. Dashboard cancellation works only in seven states and DC.

  3. Step 3 · not stated on its pages · $99 plus state fee, then $149 a year at Bizee

    Order your new registered agent

Bizee files the change of agent for $99 plus the state fee, then charges $149 a year. CorpNet is $149 a year; InCorp $129 a year.

  4. Step 4 · 2-4 business days at CorpNet before the state's time · $199 at CorpNet; state fee covered up to what you paid at InCorp

File the change of agent with the state

  5. Step 5 · not stated on its pages · ZenBusiness resignation fees; amount not published

    Send ZenBusiness written proof

The registered agent terms require written proof that ZenBusiness is no longer your agent; charges continue until it arrives. You also pay the fees for ZenBusiness's resignation.

  6. Step 6 · not stated on its pages · No refund after 30 days on annual subscriptions

    Cancel your ZenBusiness subscriptions

Dashboard cancellation works only in CA, CO, DE, HI, IL, NY, TN and DC; elsewhere contact support. The registered agent always needs support, which confirms your replacement first.

ZenBusiness's Starter package is a one-time filing, but what usually follows it is not. Worry-Free Compliance comes free for the first year and renews at $199, and the registered agent, if you added it, is $199 a year. Switching away from ZenBusiness means moving those ongoing services. It's the same company either way; only the provider changes. Everything below comes from the companies' own pages, read Sep 25-30, 2026.

Cancelling at ZenBusiness

  • How: its help centre says dashboard self-cancellation is "available in CA, CO, DE, HI, IL, NY, TN, and DC only"; elsewhere you contact support. The registered agent can't be cancelled online in any state, and its registered agent terms say so too.
  • Term and fee: subscriptions renew automatically each month or year. Its terms warn that leaving before the end of "the initial 12-month term you may be required to pay a cancellation fee". The amount isn't published.
  • Refunds: annual subscriptions get a full refund within 30 days of purchase, less state and third-party fees. After that "no prorated refunds will be issued." The registered agent is refundable within 30 days only if ZenBusiness hasn't yet been appointed with the state.
  • Registered agent: you must appoint the replacement first. The terms say you pay the fees for the change "and ZenBusiness’ resignation as your agent", no amount given. You also send written proof. Until then you keep being charged. Support confirms the replacement before it cancels.

Your documents

Articles of Organization, EIN letter, operating agreement and other filings sit in the Documents section of the dashboard, each downloadable. Download them before you cancel. ZenBusiness says your formation documents "won't disappear" but "you may lose access to the document storage dashboard" (help centre). Registered agent account content may be deleted 30 days after termination. Legal mail that arrives after you replace ZenBusiness is returned to sender or destroyed.

Where to move

Bizee, CorpNet and InCorp, from our LLC formation ranking, each sell a registered agent service with a way to take over from another agent. None names ZenBusiness. Prices from their pages, read Sep 25-30, 2026.

What carries over and what doesn't

Your LLC and its documents carry over, and support confirms your new agent is in place before cancelling ZenBusiness's. What you can lose is any unrefunded subscription time, a possible cancellation fee in the first 12 months, the resignation fees, and dashboard access.

Who should move: owners past their first year, facing the $199 Worry-Free Compliance or $199 registered agent renewal. InCorp's agent is $70 a year less. Who should wait: anyone inside the first 12 months, where the cancellation fee may apply. See how we score formation services in the methodology.
