Who should pick which

  • DocuSign: One sender who needs 5 envelopes a month or fewer, from $10 a month billed yearly
  • Dropbox Sign: One sender with unlimited signature requests at $15 a month billed yearly, or 3 a month free

DocuSign's entry plan is Personal; Dropbox Sign's (formerly HelloSign) is Essentials. Both are for one sender. The real split is volume: one caps envelopes, the other doesn't.

Price

Billed yearly, DocuSign Personal is $10 a month ($120 upfront) and Dropbox Sign Essentials $15 a month ($180), so Dropbox Sign costs $60 a year more. Month to month, it's $15 against $20.

DocuSign's default option, $11 a month, is "an annual commitment of $132": you can cancel within 30 days without penalty, after that the rest of the year is owed. Dropbox Sign's pages we read don't state cancellation terms; its pricing FAQ describes a 30-day free trial.

For two users, both Standard plans cost $25 per user a month billed yearly, $600 a year. Dropbox Sign Standard needs at least 2 users, and 5 or more go through sales. DocuSign Standard allows up to 50 users, each with 100 envelopes a year.

Prices from DocuSign's pricing page and Dropbox Sign's pricing page, both read Sep 27, 2026.

Where they differ

  • Volume. DocuSign's compare table shows "Envelope sends 5 per month" for Personal. Dropbox Sign's help centre says Essentials senders can collect signatures "on an unlimited number of documents".
  • Templates. Essentials allows up to five templates (15 on Standard). DocuSign ticks reusable templates for Personal without a stated count.
  • Free plan. Dropbox Sign's free plan sends 3 signature requests a month. DocuSign offers a free trial of unstated length. Its home page says "Send, sign and manage all your agreements for free", but the pricing page lists no free plan, so we read it as a trial.
  • Support. DocuSign's Standard Support is the Support Center and chat, with a target first response under 24 hours. Dropbox Sign's pricing table lists "Email" for Essentials; the row's tooltip says email and chat. We use the table: email only.
  • Signer checks and add-ons. Dropbox Sign's SMS authentication starts at Standard (features). DocuSign's SMS delivery (from $0.36 each) and ID verification (from $2.40 an attempt) can be added to Standard or Business Pro only. DocuSign lists payment collection from Business Pro; Dropbox Sign's pages don't list it on any plan.

Who should pick which

Pick DocuSign if you send 5 envelopes a month or fewer, want the lower yearly price, or want chat support on the entry plan.

Pick Dropbox Sign if you send more than 5 a month on your own, or want a free plan to start.
